The Power of Negative Ions- The Ocean and Bodies of Water

Negative Ions- the invisible healer.

Negative ions enhance our mood, stimulate our senses, improve appetite and sexual drive, provide relief from hay fever, sinusitis, bronchial asthma, allergies, migraines, even post operative pain and burns. Negative ions stimulate the reticuloendothelial system which is a group of defense cells in our bodies which marshal our resistance to disease. Negative ions promote alpha brain waves and increased brain wave amplitude which results in a higher awareness level. The body is better able to absorb oxygen into the blood cells, oxidize serotonin and filter airborne contaminants.

Normal ion counts in fresh country air is 2,000-4,000 negative ions per cubic centimeter. At a large water fall you might find over 100,000 negative ions. Polluted air such as in large cities might have less than 100 ions.

The above pictures are of a highly energized negative ion state using our NEV technology. The brilliant greens and reds of the filter- Blend 2. The top is without the filter the bottom is with the filter applied.

You might have noticed that you feel more refreshed near the ocean, a waterfall or even taking a shower. This is because all of these areas have a higher concentration of negative ions to positive ones. The ocean typically has 2000 negative ions and 1000 positive. The force or energy of the falling or splashing water causes splitting of neutral particles of air, freeing electrons which attach to other air molecules causing a negative charge.

Indoor air also has concentrations of positive and negative ions just like the air outside. A well ventilated home will have similar concentrations of air ions as the outdoor air. Normal outdoor air (unless you are at the ocean or in the country) will have slightly more positive ions compared to negative ions. Indoor air can receive a higher negative ion count through simple things like showering or having a water source like an indoor fountain or a artificial negative ion generator.  The air can also become positively charged or have an abundance of positive ions through pollution and static electricity in your home. Polluted air with a high particulate count of dust will become statically charged. This static charge will attract the negative ions subsequently depleting or absorbing them. The end result will be indoor air with a depleted supply of negative ions an an oversupply of positive ions.

Static can also come from synthetic building materials, synthetic carpets, synthetic furniture, synthetic fabrics and clothing, plastics, urethane finishes, as well as EMF’s. All of these synthetic materials and objects will greatly upset the normal ion balance.

Indoor air that has a higher concentration of positive ions can lead to Sick Building Syndrome or even symptoms usually associated with Seasonal Affective Disorder or the “winter blahs”. Studies suggest that air with a overall depleted ion count (positive and negative) or an abundance of positive ions and a lack of negative ions, does not promote a healthy environment and should be treated as polluted air.

Again the top picture is without the filter, the bottom picture is with the filter applied. This is lifeless water in a back water, no life. It is actually detrimental to your energy field sitting close to this. There would be more positive ions than negative ions. Compare both pictures and you can clearly see the difference in energy patterns. Vivid bright compered to dull and patternless. Time in a healthy environment is the best medicine.

  1. Can running a humidifier with salt dissoled in the water help achieve more negative ions in a room?

    • Hi
Its not really the salt in the water as such, but the crashing of the waves that produces the negative ions. Other sources are waterfalls, bubbling streams, pine forrests and tops of mountains. You will get more negative ions in your room by adding a plant such as a maiden hair fern for example, than with a humidifier.

      • Thanks for this article Mat. I’ve been wondering for a while what exactly makes the place we now live in so energising – in the Portuguese mountains with 2 vibrant bubbling streams and waterfalls, and surrounded on all sides by hectares of wild forest – stark contrast to the London environment we left 7 years ago. Do you mind if I mention your article on our next blog?

      • Thanks Andrew, its great stuff, you can use what ever you like!

  2. Thanks Mat. Maiden Hair Fern happens to be my favorite indoor plant

  3. Hi Mat, thinking outside the box… do you think listening to a meditation about a waterfall – or listening to ocean waves, would ‘trigger’ an association and release similar endorphins in the body?

    • Hi Nigel
You are quite right. Listening to water or nature is still encoded by the sound/frequencies on a recording. There is a type of chinese 5 element music that does this. Through frequency and intention chi/life force is (intention) is coded onto tape or recording. As far as physical negative ions being produced, no. The energetic signature, yes, can be explained as a type of radionics. Listening to nature sounds is well known in the effect on the body and stress levels. Does no beat being in nature but if you are in a city it will do. As teh frequencies stimualte visual memories and pictures and so create a relaxing ambiance. Explore such methods as binaural beats, best known by the monroe institute which produces some good recordings of this.Ocean sounds produce a type of white noise, if the eyes are covered it can produce a ganzfield effect in which hypnogogic visions can be expereinced as well.
      Kind regards
      Mat

  4. I’m very interested in studying this further. I have a hypermobility/connective tissue disorder, along with a suspected autoimmune disorder. I live with daily pain and frequent flare-ups. I have also been perpetually sick in the apartment I have lived in for the last 10 months and I fought to break my lease, and won. I will move next weekend, two months early.

I have always wondered why I love, and even crave, thunderstorms. I live in an area that has semi-frequent thunderstorms and the only thing I will miss when I leave here and move out to California is that I will no longer be able to enjoy them. During a storm I have energy and I feel wonderful. I even feel less pain. I only recently found out that negative ions are released into the atmosphere during a storm, which might explain my need to be outside, or near a window; before, during, and after.

I wish I could stand the heat of Florida because I would move there instead, to where there are places where over 100 thunderstorms per year occur. But it can’t happen. I don’t like the hot, humid, sunny weather. I have been looking at alternatives to thunderstorms and I wonder if there are areas in the U.S. that might have more negative ions, and from what I’m seeing, higher elevations and places near waterfalls or moving water seem to be good choices. Do you have any idea if fog creates or depletes negative ions?

    • Hi Shawn
That is a health challenge you have. Its interesting your need for areas that are know producers of negative ions. You have mentioned most of them. If you are unable to move to another location also spend time in pine forrests as they are very potent sources of the ions. There is really one product that I am aware of that produces neg ions that are injestable. Its called the Elanra negative ioniser, made in Australia. I use one as well, very very good. Also in regard to your physical challengers. Many spiritual pathways have been very effective in overcomming the most challenging diseases. All 12 step programs ie A Couse In Miracles or Wayne Dyers 75 day program, its worth a look. In regard to fog, negative ions are produced via moving water, friction electricity, pine needles etc. Fog is static, it does not produce them, its the earths version of having a cold. I am unsure if fog depletes ned ions but it certainly does not produce them. Walk barefoot, sit with you back against a tree, Have a shower!!!! these produce negative ions.

  5. Interesting. But how else can one boast up the amount of negative ions in his body? Could drinking water help that? I hope to read more about it soon.

    • Hi
Im unaware of this having an effect. Increasing the ion count in the body is just spending time in nature. See previous threads and explanations. I personally use an elanra ioniser in my home when Im not out side. If you find any man made product that produces injestable ions get it, others are just air cleaners.
